  Abstract

Internet users are massively increased and can take over the number of telephone users in the near future. It is difficult that network providers using traditional transpon networks service to explosively increased internet users. One of the solutions is using WDM concepts and deploying WDM systems on transpon networks. It is imponant to construct WDM networks with survivability. In panic 비 ar, WDM 꺼 ng networks can have excellent survivability and reduce electronic components cost for network survivability.
According to network topology, WDM networks have three protection categories, which are a point-to-point protection scheme, a dedicated ring topology and a shared ring topology. The shared ring topology is sharing of all protection capacities for all nodes. OCh(Optical Channel)-SPRING and OMS (Optical Multiplex Section)-SPRING are included in this topology category.
This paper proposes three protection switching system configurations for WDM SPRING networks with survivability, which are SPR I, SPR 2, and SPR 3. In panicular, these configurations are discriminated by both of locations of switching unit on node system and a type of optical multiplex or demultiplex. We show some results of relative optical components quantity between three configuration schemes.
