  Abstract

Recently, social interest in content incorporating deepfake technology is increasing. With the continuous development of technologies related to deepfakes, they are now also used in movies and commercial broadcasts that require high-end quality. Despite the fact that deepfake technology has various uses, it is considered as a negative technology due to the possibilities of abuse. Therefore, this study tried to examine the social discussion on deepfake technology by analyzing media reports, and to derive implications for social discussion. We have extracted 18,622 keywords from 1,535 articles; and used topic modeling and keyword network analysis. As a result, seven different sets of underlying topics were formed. Throughout the articles about deepfakes, words related to crime were repeatedly covered. In the last year, articles related to ‘Telegram’ and ‘sexual exploitation" were mainly reported, and articles on the technical side were mainly reported in specialized magazines. Lastly, extracting and visualizing the top 60 words in frequency, similar to the previous analysis, it was found that words related to ‘sex crime" were frequently mentioned.
